Kundalini Yoga is a very ancient technology that many believe to be the original form of yoga, with its beginnings in India thousands of years ago. It came to the West relatively recently, in 1968, when Yogi Bhajan, Master of Kundalini Yoga, arrived in Los Angeles and began teaching. Until his passing in October of 2004, Yogi Bhajan traveled throughout the world teaching, lecturing and serving as a champion of peace. For over three decades, he served as Director of Spiritual Education for the 3HO Foundation (the Healthy Happy Holy Organization). Perhaps the greatest gift that Yogi Bhajan gave us was the training of Kundalini Yoga teachers. Today, thousands of people share his teachings in informal community settings as well as more formally through 3HO Teaching Centers, healing clinics, schools, birthing centers and counseling practices around the world.

So what is Kundalini really? Yogi Bhajan put it this way. It is your creative potential. When your energy is balanced and integrated, you become totally whole and totally aware, and your creative potential becomes available to you. Whether you call it Kundalini, the power of soul consciousness or Divine Consciousness, the gift of this divine energy gives a person equilibrium. When you are in a state of equilibrium, you will be radiant. Your spirit will rise like the tide rises when the moon is near the Earth.

Kundalini Yoga is a science that works on the chakras, the energy centers of the body. The total flow of energy in your body can be viewed in a very simple way ? either you sway it, or it sways you. You can either be above the energy and ride it, or you can go below the energy and let it ride you. The practice of Kundalini Yoga teaches us how to ride our energy, to experience it and to attain balance in any situation.

The power of Kundalini Yoga truly lies in the experience of it. It opens your heart and expands your consciousness to give you a broader knowing of Grace and Truth. Ultimately, the regular practice of Kundalini Yoga allows you to understand your relationship to the universe and to bring the experience of Infinity into all aspects of your daily life.

Kundalini Yoga uses four basis tools: breath, motion, sound and meditation. For the physical body, it gradually increases strength, flexibility and stamina. It brings the energy of the body into balance so that the physical systems of the body (nervous, circulatory, immune, digestive, etc.) can work at their optimum. For the mind, Kundalini Yoga gives us tools to allow us to control our minds instead of letting our minds control us. It helps us exercise our focus, so we can put our mental energy where we want it to be. And for the spirit, Kundalini Yoga helps us to connect with Infinity so we can be our very best, our very highest selves.

Throughout his life as a teacher and trainer of teachers, Yogi Bhajan remained a humble and pure channel. About spreading the wisdom of Kundalini Yoga, he said, ?Somebody just shared this knowledge with me and by the Grace of God, I collected it. We are in a desert, and I have a little water with me that I want to share with people. Does that make me a water man? Am I the rain? Am I the clouds? Am I the ocean? No. I am just a little can of water in the desert to which people can touch their lips and think of surviving. Beyond that, I am nothing.?
